While I liked attending parties, I feel happier hosting the event. Plus it's nice to get paid.
OG2 comes from the 2nd floor "Oglesby" dorms, where I lived my freshman year with my buddies. We rented a house sophomore year and decided to throw a party... or two... or three... or a lot.
Our first event got rained out and less than 10 people showed up. Our biggest weekend, we netted over $5,400. From your typical college party to hosting cultural events, OG2 did it all, and we succeeded.
Unfortunately, there were problems with theft, legal and physical risk, fights, police, and just my reputation in general. I didn't want to be known as "that party guy" or have something very bad happen at one of the events, so I slowed down with throwing them, eventually stopping. It was still an unforgettable and valuable experience!
This venture taught me how to market and organize events, what people at parties (in college) actually want to feel attending an event, how to budget and still perform, and how to network in an entirely new way. It solidified my go-getter attitude, always requiring some critical thinking to make money and keep everyone happy and safe.
The photos below are from a few events. Everyone with drinks is over 21!
